Oxford – Ole Miss baseball is set to host their first regional since 2021.
Ole Miss hung around the hosting bubble for most of the season before an impressive run at the SEC Tournament in Hoover, AL propelled them to the #10 National Seed. After going 16-14 during the SEC regular season gauntlet, the Rebels got hot at the conference tournament winning their first 3 games before losing in the championship to #1 national seed, Vanderbilt. The showing in Hoover was good enough to earn the Rebels a regional host spot where they will entertain Murray State, Georgia Tech and Western Kentucky.
Georgia Tech was also on the hosting bubble at the end of the season but just missed out. Their 19 ACC conference wins earned them the regular-season championship and a 40-17 record, which is their best since 2019. Unfortunately for them, they must travel back to Swayze Field where they played in the 2014 Oxford Regional. Ole Miss won that regional, advanced to supers and eventually to Omaha for the College World Series.
Western Kentucky won an impressive 46 games up to this point including a walk off win over Jacksonville State in the Conference USA championship game. The Hilltoppers went 18-9 in conference play, good enough to finish second in the regular season standings. Just like Georgia Tech, Western Kentucky has also been to Swayze Field for postseason baseball. WKU advanced to the regional championship in 2009 before losing to the #8 overall seed, Ole Miss.
Murray State is no stranger to Oxford, MS and Swayze field themselves. In fact, this team should be quite comfortable facing Ole Miss. The Racers have played in Oxford for the past two years, beating the Rebels 12-9 in 15 innings in 2024 and losing this season 9-7 in 10 innings. If the Racers can find one win at the Oxford regional, they will tie the 1975 team for most wins in a season at 40.
Action kicks off in Oxford, MS on May 30th at 3PM with Georgia Tech and Western Kentucky. Followed by the Rebels and Racers around 7PM. You can watch the action all weekend long on ESPN’s streaming platform ESPN+.
